Meet the Contributing Artist: Zaynab Badat

Hi there! I’m Zaynab, the creative mind behind Dezign Scape. I live in the beautiful KwaZulu-Natal, where I draw inspiration from my surroundings and the things I love.

How did you find Cricut, and why did you join the Contributing Artist Program? 

I first discovered Cricut while watching organization tips on YouTube, and I was truly impressed by all the creative projects people were making! When a close family member mentioned openings in the Contributing Artist Program, it felt like the perfect opportunity. I was thrilled at the chance to share my passion for graphic design and art with the amazing Cricut community!  

⁠Where did your artistic journey begin? 

I initially started my artistic journey as a home baker, using cakes, cupcakes, and macarons as my canvas. When I realized I needed a fresh chapter in my creative journey, I decided to reconnect with my first love—computers—and dive into graphic design. The timing couldn’t have been better, since Cricut was looking for designers to join their Contributing Artist Program! I also love painting with watercolours, and some of my favourite pieces blend traditional art with a digital twist!

What does creativity mean to you? 

Creativity is my way to relax and unwind, and being able to do something I love every day is truly the best! I can easily lose myself for hours in an idea, and seeing the final result brings me immense happiness and fulfilment. However, the greatest joy comes from seeing other Cricut crafters incorporating my designs in their own unique ways. Knowing that my work resonates with someone is incredibly rewarding!

Who or what inspires you to create, and why? 

I find inspiration from everyday life, my family, and the creative Cricut community. My passions push me to explore new ideas, while my family’s support and encouragement keeps me going. The Cricut community inspires me with their creativity, sparking my imagination and motivating me to create designs that can inspire others.

What is your favourite type of craft, or what project have you created that you are most proud of?

Lately, I’ve been really enjoying crafting cards for special occasions. Each design gives me a chance to express my creativity and add a personal touch for the person receiving it. I love that every card becomes a heartfelt keepsake, capturing moments that can be cherished forever.

Describe your artistic style in one word. 

Joyful

Are you a clean or messy person? 

I’m an obsessively clean and organized person! I love keeping everything in order; it really helps me focus and fully enjoy the creative process

What would it be if you had to choose a colour to describe yourself? 

Although there may be some debate about whether white is a colour, I would definitely choose it to describe myself. I love the clean, relaxed, and peaceful vibe it evokes.

Favourite Cricut product and why?

That’s a really difficult question to answer! Right now, I’m especially drawn to iron-on and infusible ink. The possibilities are endless—whether it’s clothing, home decor, or cards. It’s such a fun way to add a personal touch to everything I create!
